 See what happens when the characters of Rembrandt's most famous painting "The Night Watch" suddenly come alive in a shopping mall.

"The Night Watch" by Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn is one of the most famous paintings in the world. , prominently displayed in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Also called "The Shooting Company of Frans Banning Cocq", the painting is renowned for three characteristics: its colossal size (12 ft × 14 ft), the effective use of light and shadow, and the perception of motion in what would have traditionally been a static portrait. 13 april gaat het Rijksmuseum open en komen Het melkmeisje, Jan Steen, De Nachtwacht en alle andere helden weer terug. Dit is wat er gebeurt als ze plotseling opduiken in een nietsvermoedend winkelcentrum. The slogan 'Our Heroes are Back' is used to announce that, after an absence of one decade, all major pieces in the Rijksmuseum's collection are back where they belong. This is what happens when they suddenly emerge in an unsuspecting shopping mall somewhere in The Netherlands. With the support of main sponsor ING, entrance to the museum is free on the 13th of April from 12:00 to 00:00.

A festményt Rembrandt az amszterdami polgárőrség megbízásából készítette 1642-ben. 1600 guldent kapott érte, ami akkoriban egy képzett munkás nagyjából 10 évi keresetének felelt meg (egy másik híres összehasonlítás, hogy az akkortájt tomboló tulipánőrület csúcsán 5200 guldent fizettek egyetlen szuperritka tulipánhagymáért). A kép címe egészen prózai módon az lett, hogy Schutters van wijk II onder leiding van kapitein Frans Banninck Cocq, ami annyit jelent, hogy a második kerület milíciája Frans Banninck Cocq kapitány vezetésével, és ez, lássuk be, még a 17. századi holland clickbait-standardek mellett sem volt különösebben figyelemfelhívó. Nem úgy maga a kép, ami Rembrandt minden zsenialitását magán hordozta: a szokásos, statikus és unalmas katonai csoportképek helyett mozgalmas volt, dinamikus, elképesztően részletgazdag, és egészen fantasztikus fény-árnyék hatásokat mutatott. A művész direkt erre játszott rá magával a kompozícióval is, a csoportot úgy beállítva, hogy egy sötét udvarból masíroznak ki éppen a napsütötte utcára.  ...  Az Operation Night Watch projekt keretében mesterséges intelligencia segítségével rekonstruálták a korábban megcsonkított festményt.
